Crockpot 4-Ingredient Cabbage and Potatoes
This simple slow cooker recipe combines tender cabbage and potatoes with butter for a comforting, budget-friendly side dish. With just four ingredients, it’s an easy addition to any family meal.
Ingredients
- 1 small head green cabbage, cut into wedges or chopped
- 2 lb (900 g) baby potatoes or Yukon Gold potatoes, halved
- ½ cup (1 stick / 115 g) unsalted butter, sliced
- 1 packet (1 oz / 28 g) onion soup mix
Optional: Fresh parsley, black pepper, garlic powder, or crumbled cooked bacon for serving.
Instructions
- Lightly grease the slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray.
- Add the potatoes to the bottom of the slow cooker.
- Layer the cabbage on top of the potatoes.
- Sprinkle the onion soup mix evenly over the vegetables.
- Place the sliced butter over the top.
- Cover and cook:
- LOW: 6–7 hours
- HIGH: 3–4 hours
- Gently stir once during the last hour of cooking, if desired.
- Serve warm, spooning the buttery cooking juices over the vegetables.

- Cut the potatoes into similar-sized pieces for even cooking.
- For a heartier meal, add sliced smoked sausage or diced ham during the last 2 hours of cooking.
