- ¼ cup all-purpose flour
- 2½ cups whole milk
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Instructions
1. Prepare the Breading
- In a shallow bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne.
- In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and buttermilk.
2. Bread the Steaks
- Pat the cube steaks dry.
- Dredge each steak in the seasoned flour.

- Let the breaded steaks rest for 10 minutes before frying.
3. Fry the Steaks
- Heat about ½ inch (1.25 cm) of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the steaks for 3–4 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.
- Transfer to a wire rack or paper towel-lined plate to drain.
4. Make the Country Gravy
- Carefully pour off all but ¼ cup of the frying oil.
- Whisk in the flour and cook for 1–2 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth.
