Ingredients
For the Stir-Fry
- 1½ lbs (680 g) boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 4 cups broccoli florets
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced (optional)
- 2 green onions, sliced
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional)
For the Sauce
- ⅓ cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon honey or brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- ¼ cup chicken broth or water
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, cornstarch, chicken broth, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Set aside.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Add the chicken and cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned and cooked through. Transfer to a plate.
- Add the remaining oil to the skillet. Cook the onion for 2 minutes, then add the broccoli and bell pepper. Stir-fry for 4–5 minutes until the vegetables are crisp-tender.
- Add the garlic and ginger, cooking for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Return the chicken to the skillet.
- Pour in the prepared sauce and stir continuously for 2–3 minutes, until the sauce thickens and evenly coats the chicken and vegetables.
- Sprinkle with green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
