Ingredients
For the Stir Fry
- 1½ pounds (680 g) boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
- 4 cups broccoli florets
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced (optional)
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 2 green onions, sliced
For the Sauce
- ⅓ cup (80 ml) low-sodium soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon honey or brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- ¼ cup (60 ml) chicken broth or water
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Garnish
- Sesame seeds
- Sliced green onions
Instructions
- In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, cornstarch, chicken broth, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Set aside.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Add the chicken and cook for 5–6 minutes, stirring frequently, until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken and set aside.
- Add the remaining tablespoon of oil to the skillet.
- Stir-fry the broccoli, bell pepper, and onion for 4–5 minutes, until crisp-tender.
- Add the garlic and ginger, cooking for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Return the chicken to the skillet and pour in the prepared sauce.
- Stir continuously for 2–3 minutes, until the sauce thickens and evenly coats the chicken and vegetables.
- Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions before serving.
