Total Time: About 2 hours 10 minutes
Servings: 12 rolls
Ingredients
For the Dough
- 3½ cups (440 g) all-purpose or bread flour
- 2¼ teaspoons (1 packet) instant yeast
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (240 ml) warm milk (110°F/43°C)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
For the Filling
- 1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (optional)
For the Topping
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon chopped fresh parsley or ½ teaspoon dried parsley
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
- Add the warm milk, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces.
- Flatten each piece into a small circle. Place about 2 tablespoons of the mozzarella and cheddar mixture in the center.
- Pinch the edges tightly to seal, then shape into smooth balls.
- Arrange the rolls seam-side down in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish or on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown.
- Brush the hot rolls with melted butter and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and parsley.
- Let cool for 5 minutes before serving so the cheese stays inside the rolls.
Serving Suggestions
- Pair with tomato soup or creamy broccoli soup.
- Serve alongside pasta, chili, or salads.
- Enjoy as a snack with marinara or ranch dipping sauce.
- Use them as mini sandwich buns for sliders.
Tips
- Mix different cheeses like Monterey Jack, provolone, or pepper jack for extra flavor.
- Add cooked bacon bits, diced ham, or pepperoni to the filling for a heartier roll.
- Freeze baked rolls for up to 2 months. Reheat in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 8–10 minutes or in the air fryer for 3–4 minutes.
