Air Fryer Grilled Cheese Sandwich
This Air Fryer Grilled Cheese Sandwich is perfectly crispy on the outside with gooey, melted cheese inside. It’s quick, easy, and ready in under 10 minutes!
Ingredients (Makes 2 Sandwiches)
- 4 slices sandwich bread (white, sourdough, or whole wheat)
- 4 slices cheddar, American, Swiss, provolone, or mozzarella cheese
- 2 tablespoons softened butter (or mayonnaise for extra crispiness)
Optional Add-Ins
- 2 slices cooked bacon
- 2 slices tomato
- Thinly sliced ham
- Caramelized onions
- Jalapeños
- Fresh basil
Instructions
- Preheat the Air Fryer
- Preheat the air fryer to 370°F (188°C) for 3 minutes.
- Assemble the Sandwiches
- Spread butter (or mayonnaise) evenly on one side of each slice of bread.
- Place two slices of bread buttered-side down.
- Add two slices of cheese to each sandwich.
- Top with the remaining bread, buttered-side up.
- Air Fry
- Place the sandwiches in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
- Air fry at 370°F (188°C) for 4–5 minutes.
- Carefully flip the sandwiches.
- Cook for another 3–4 minutes, until both sides are golden brown and the cheese is fully melted.
- Serve
- Let the sandwiches rest for 1 minute before slicing.
- Serve warm with tomato soup, fries, chips, or a fresh salad.
Tips
- Place a toothpick through each sandwich if the top slice tends to move from the circulating air (remove before serving).
- Freshly grated cheese melts more smoothly than pre-sliced cheese.
- Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket—cook in batches if necessary.
- For extra flavor, sprinkle a little garlic powder or grated Parmesan on the buttered bread before cooking.
