Fried Bologna Sandwich
A classic diner-style sandwich — simple, salty, and utterly satisfying with crispy edges and melty cheese.
Ingredients (Serves 1–2)
-
2–4 slices bologna (thick-cut works best)
-
2 slices sandwich bread (white, wheat, or Texas toast)
-
1–2 slices cheddar or American cheese
-
1 tbsp butter
-
Optional toppings: mustard, mayo, pickles, lettuce, tomato
Instructions
1️⃣ Fry the bologna
-
Heat a skillet over medium heat.
-
Fry bologna slices 2–3 minutes per side until edges are crispy and slightly browned.
-
Optional: cut a small “X” in the center of each slice to prevent curling.
2️⃣ Toast the bread
-
Spread butter on bread slices and toast in the same skillet until golden.
3️⃣ Assemble the sandwich
-
Place fried bologna on one slice of bread.
-
Add cheese on top while bologna is hot so it melts slightly.
-
Add any desired toppings (mustard, pickles, etc.).
-
Top with the second slice of bread.
4️⃣ Serve
-
Cut in half and enjoy immediately while hot.
Pro Tips
-
Fry on medium heat to avoid burning the bologna.
-
For extra flavor, sprinkle a little black pepper or paprika on the bologna while frying.
-
Use a cast-iron skillet for the crispiest edges.
Variations
-
Bologna & Egg – Add a fried egg on top.
-
Deluxe – Add sautéed onions and peppers.
-
Air Fryer Version – Air fry bologna at 375°F for 5–6 minutes per side for less grease.
This is a nostalgic, comfort-food classic that’s quick, cheap, and incredibly satisfying.
