Air Fryer Cheese Scones
These Air Fryer Cheese Scones are buttery, soft, and fluffy on the inside with a golden, cheesy crust. They’re quick to make and perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a savory snack served warm with butter.
Ingredients
- 2 cups (250 g) self-rising flour
- ½ tsp garlic powder (optional)
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- ¼ cup (60 g) cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 1 cup (100 g) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- ⅔ cup (160 ml) milk
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional)
For the Topping
- 1 tbsp milk
- 2 tbsp shredded cheddar cheese
- ½ tsp dried parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 330°F (165°C) for 3 minutes.
- In a large bowl, combine the self-rising flour, garlic powder, and black pepper.
- Rub the cold butter into the flour using your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese.
- Add the milk and Dijon mustard (if using) and mix gently until a soft dough forms. Do not overmix.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat it into a 1-inch (2.5 cm) thick round.
- Cut out 6–8 scones using a biscuit cutter or cut into wedges.
- Brush the tops with milk and sprinkle with the extra cheddar cheese.
- Line the air fryer basket with perforated parchment paper if desired, then place the scones in the basket, leaving space between them.
- Air fry at 330°F (165°C) for 10–12 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Let the scones cool for 5 minutes before serving.
Tips
- Keep the butter cold for the lightest, flakiest texture.
- Handle the dough gently to avoid tough scones.
- Air fry in batches if needed so the scones have room to rise.
- Add chopped chives, spring onions, or cooked bacon for extra flavor.
