Crispy Fried Mushrooms with Cool Ranch Dip
Golden, crunchy fried mushrooms paired with a cool, creamy ranch dip make the perfect appetizer, game-day snack, or party favorite.
Ingredients
For the Fried Mushrooms
- 1 lb (450 g) whole button or cremini mushrooms, cleaned and patted dry
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tbsp milk
- 1½ cups panko breadcrumbs
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp dried parsley
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- Vegetable oil, for frying
For the Cool Ranch Dip
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- ½ cup sour cream
- 1 tbsp buttermilk (or milk)
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp dried dill
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp dried parsley
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Instructions
Make the Ranch Dip
- In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sour cream, buttermilk, lemon juice, dill, garlic powder, onion powder, parsley, salt, and pepper.
- Refrigerate while preparing the mushrooms.
Prepare the Mushrooms
- Heat 2–3 inches of oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Place the flour in one shallow bowl.
- Beat the eggs with the milk in a second bowl.
- In a third bowl, combine the panko, Parmesan, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, parsley, salt, and pepper.
- Coat each mushroom in flour, dip into the egg mixture, then coat thoroughly with the breadcrumb mixture.
- Fry the mushrooms in batches for 3–4 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
Tips
- Make sure the mushrooms are completely dry before breading.
- Fry in small batches to keep the oil temperature steady.
- For extra crunch, double-coat the mushrooms by dipping them in the egg and breadcrumbs a second time.
- Serve immediately while hot and crispy.
