Crispy Buttery Grilled Cheese Sandwich with Hot Fries

Ingredients (Serves 2)
For the Sandwiches
- 4 slices thick-cut bread (white, sourdough, or Texas toast)
- 4 slices cheddar, American, Swiss, or mozzarella cheese
- 2 tablespoons softened butter
- 1 teaspoon mayonnaise (optional, for extra crispiness)
For the Fries
- 1 lb (450 g) frozen French fries
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional)
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- Salt, to taste
- Chopped parsley (optional)
Instructions
1. Cook the Fries
- Bake or air fry the frozen fries according to the package directions.
- If desired, toss with olive oil, garlic powder, and paprika before cooking.
- Season with salt after cooking.
2. Prepare the Sandwiches
- Butter one side of each bread slice.
- Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise on the buttered side if using.
- Place two slices of cheese between two slices of bread, with the buttered sides facing outward.
3. Cook the Sandwiches
- Heat a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium-low heat.
- Cook the sandwiches for 3–4 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula, until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
4. Serve
- Slice each sandwich in half.
- Serve immediately with the hot fries.
