Air fryer Turkish bread (soft, fluffy with a slightly crisp top) is surprisingly easy—and you don’t even need an oven 🇹🇷
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp instant yeast
- ¾ cup warm water
- 2 tbsp yogurt (makes it softer)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
For topping (optional but authentic):
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tbsp yogurt
- Sesame seeds or nigella seeds (kalonji)
Instructions
1. Make the dough
- Mix flour, salt, sugar, and yeast
- Add warm water, yogurt, and oil
- Knead for 8–10 minutes until soft and smooth
2. Let it rise
- Cover and rest in a warm place for 1 hour (until doubled)
3. Shape it
- Flatten into a round or oval (about 1–2 cm thick)
- Press a grid pattern on top with your fingers (classic Turkish style)
4. Add topping
- Mix egg yolk + yogurt and brush on top
- Sprinkle sesame or kalonji seeds
5. Air fry
- Preheat to 180°C (350°F)
- Cook for 10–15 minutes until golden on top
Tips for Best Results
- Don’t make it too thick or it won’t cook through
- If top browns too fast, lower temp slightly
- Flip for last 2–3 minutes if bottom needs more color
How to Serve
- With kebabs or grilled chicken
- As a sandwich bread
- With butter, cheese, or dips like hummus
Quick Variation (No Yeast)
- Replace yeast with 1 tsp baking powder
- Skip rising time
- Texture will be more like flatbread but still delicious
